Wave and Water1

Wave energy is one of the most plentiful forms of kinetic energy or the energy of motion on the planet. Annette von Jouanne working as an assistant professor of engineering at Oregon State University in 1995, decided to find or improve on useful sources of energy, preferably one that wasn't scarce or fleeting or unpredictable or dirty. As she was bobbing in the ocean swells that year, she thought that if we could just ride the waves all day and all night and capitalize on this vast resources. Today von Jouanne is one of the driving forces in wave energy with her Wallace Energy Systems & Renewable Facility. In the US, wave kinetic energy could fuel about 6.5% of today's electricity needs alone.    (Picture courtesy Oregon state University)

Hydropower Generates Electricity

Hydropower is the renewable energy source that produces the most electricity in the United States. It accounted for 7% of total U.S. electricity generation and 35% of generation from renewables in 2009.

Hydropower Relies on the Water Cycle

Understanding the water cycle is important to understanding hydropower. In the water cycle: Solar energy heats water on the surface, causing it to evaporate. This water vapor condenses into clouds and falls back onto the surface as precipitation (rain, snow, etc.). The water flows through rivers back into the oceans, where it can evaporate and begin the cycle over again. In some cases a portion of the water released for power generation is pumped back into the main reservoir for use the next day, recycling the water, a form of Kinetic Energy Vaulting.

Small Stream, Canal, and Ditch Hydropower

Water is the life blood of a individual, community and nation. Without this precious elixir we would soon perish. In many areas of our world and country this life blood flows freely without taking advantage of the great kinetic energy flowing water possesses. All we need to do is convert some of the Natural Kinetic Energy available here in streams, brooks, ditches and rivers that are in our back yards, fields, and communities in many parts of this country. There are many companies that market small hydro turbines, here is an example of one of them.  Click her for more

Wake up America

Oil has been a inexpensive resource for many decades in the USA. With 90% of the easily recoverable oil found, the cost of drilling in sensitive areas of the  USA  is sky-rocketing or prohibited altogether. The political instability in oil producing areas of the world is also causing rapid increases in the cost of oil.

America still has it

It is predicted that our total green energy production will exceed 20% by 2020. This will  cut our dependency on oil by 5 million barrels per day and creating millions of jobs.

Renewable resources are abundant in our nation,  including solar, wind, water, and wave kinetic energy. We also have the 3rd largest reserves of rare-earth minerals in the world, the kind that batteries and solar panels use! (97% of these elements now comes from China.) :(
